I have always had a delicate understanding of the meaning of ‘home’. Born in Kenya to a Kikuyu mother and fourth generation British Kenyan father, and brought up as an expatriate in the Middle East before coming to London where I now live and work, my history – my identity – is rooted in transient middle points and passages of migration. Consequently, my trajectory as an artist has involved accumulating tools necessary to form a language that I feel is able to encompass and communicate global, fragmented narratives such as my own, narratives which cannot be easily explained – contained – in a single image, or a single screen film. Anchored, then, in this personal exploration of ‘home’, my work combines traditional draughtsmanship and digital technology to create charged drawings, animations and installations that tell layered stories of what it means to be living now.
