Statement
In the studio I investigate the ambiguity between being a participant vs. a spectator. The acknowledgement of never escaping the role as a participant, to me creates a certain transparency: We are all participants, although we reach for the position of the spectator. Are we all on the same level, sought to say? Not situated in hierarchies, but in networks?
I am working on Perspex plates, with acrylic paint mixed with fluid acrylic medium. I use a tool (may vary) to draw in the fluid paint. This method makes transparency, both the plate and the paint are transparent, and the works may be viewed from both sides. The use of acrylic fluid, with small portions of pigments – enhances the transparency of light through the works.
The technical process in itself, represents a development towards greater distance to the original images, thus towards a gradually more remote position as spectator. However, my work is at the same time a quest to overcome this ambiguity, and create closeness to the participant individual.
