Fourteen cases have been reported throughout from 12 states, out of which two resulted in hospitalization due to the outbreak of Salmonella bacterial infection. The J.M. Smucker Co. and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) investigate this outbreak. The company asked every consumer who recently purchased the Jif Peanut butter to dispose of and throw away the product if it also had the same lot code from the list. 

If your Jif Peanut butter’s lot code number matches with the list provided by FDA, immediately stop using it and discard it. How to trace lot code?

A lot code number is a unique identification number assigned to a particular batch or lot, which allows the food manager to trace and identify each product from the manufacturing or production system. The list of lot codes provided by the FDA indicates that the product was processed in the Lexington facility. 

To check if your Jif peanut butter is safe or not, you need to trace the lot code printed below the “Best if used by” date mentioned. The company has recalled products with lot code numbers between 1274425 – 2140425.
